Trevor discusses the possible dangers for our beloved pets that lurk in the garden plants we grow, allowing expert veterinarian Lydia Pethick to show him what to look for.
- 61% of all households hold pets. That’s 5.2 million! With so many beloved animals in our homes, it’s important to keep an eye out for what may ail them.
- While plants like avocados may not be directly toxic, they’re very fatty. Watch out for curious pups, or they may swallow a large pip!
- We humans may love a good grape or raisin, but many dogs simply can’t handle them. Our safe recommendation is to avoid feeding dogs grapes, raisins and sultanas; dogs kidneys and stomachs often can’t handle them, and can even fail!
- Lilies are often a danger to cats as well. It’s somewhat known that lilies aren’t good for cats, but the truth is that all parts of the lily have proven toxic to the household cat - even pollen from the flower, so keep them well away!
- It’s not just plants in our gardens that can be harmful. It seems obvious but be mindful using snail pellets or rodent baits, which can be deadly for most household pets.
