If you have plants that are looking old and tired, if the mix is slumping and water isn’t penetrating anymore – it is time for you to undertake a re-potting challenge! Mel talks us through the best way to repot even the trickiest of plants.

  • If a plant has been sitting in a pot for too long it could be root bound, which means you may need loosen that root system a bit; shake off the old mix and prune off any damaged roots.
  • The best thing you can do for any plant is to pot it up using a good quality potting mix.
  • Pots tend to dry out quicker than garden soils, so it’s important to look for a that helps you save water.  Scotts Osmocote has three added ingredients to firstly - reduce the amount of water you need to apply and secondly conserve water in the mix. It contains Coir for water retention, a wetting agent to improve water penetration and ensure that the water you apply absorbs into the roots and water storing crystals to retain moisture and then release it as the plants need it. So the affect is three fold.
  • Scotts Osmocote also contains a controlled release fertilizer that will feed your potted plants for 6 months.
