The most exciting thing to happen in gardening in years has been the re-emergence of colour plants in home gardens. Trevor talks about some of this seasons fashionable plants and how they are a popular features for any garden.
Tips and Facts
- Old fashioned annuals will lead the way as new and improved forms and the perennial cottage plants make a come back.
- Perennial favourites such as Geraniums and Impatiens have undergone massive breeding programs to make them bigger, more colourful, hardier and more adaptable to our climatic extremes.
- Designers are dropping the traditional single colour mass planting of individual species or varieties and mass planting mixes of different sizes and coloured plants intermingled amongst each other in large open beds.
- Snapdragons are a pretty flower produced on long spikes where the flowers open progressively from the base to the top, and they come in colours ranging from white, pink, and red through to deep purples.
- Good soil, mulch and an occasional feed with a controlled release plant food is the basis to any productive garden.
