Our third finalist for the Best School Garden competition is Como Secondary College, a high school with a horticultural vision to teach their students the importance of self-sustainability, eco friendly cultivation and community collaboration. The winner of the Best School Garden category will receive a $7500 Hydroponic Express aquaponic system.

Como Secondary College

• Within just 2 years the students and teachers have transformed what was a neglected area into an inspirational green zone.
• The garden comprises of 70 garden beds, 25 of which service the school canteen and home economics department.
• This garden is an outdoor classroom not only for the horticultural students, but also for the building and construction team who have helped put together the hard landscape. 
• The students have established a 35 tree orchard as well as a propagation area where seedlings are raised to ensure the turnover of these garden beds, as well as rehabilitating surrounding natural bush lands.
