WA Growing Communities
Story Title: WA Growing Communities
Episode: Three
Date: October 18th 2009
Presenter: Chris Ferreira
The Growing Communities WA project aims to build the capacity of community gardens across Western Australia.
- Community gardens are becoming more popular as people seek fulfilling leisure time activities where they can interact with others in the area they live.
- Community gardens are helping locals tackle some of our biggest issues – like climate change and peak oil, the obesity epidemic and unemployment.
- They are a relatively new phenomenon in WA and there are currently 20 operating with another 5 approved for construction.
- Community gardens can be found in inner city areas, the suburbs, regional areas and remote Aboriginal communities.
- Growing Communities WA is an organisation that provides information and inspiration, as well as building skills and knowledge to support community gardens.
