Story: Dog Kennels and Medium Sized Gardens
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
With colder weather upon us it?s time to have the blanket ready to keep you warm at night, but how is your best friend going? It might be time to make sure your dog has a warm spot with a roof over its head because they need a place to stay warm too. So Trevor thought he?d road test a few of the kennel options available.
Better Pets and Gardens Tips and Facts
- Encourage dogs into a new kennel by putting in their favourite old blanket or toy or putting treats into the kennel.? It needs to be a good experience for them.
- Choosing the correct size is important.
- Dogs should be able to fit through the door easily, be able to turn around with no problems and not need to duck when inside.?
- A dog won?t use a kennel that is too small and choosing one that is far too big won?t provide warmth in winter.? Bring your dog in for a test run.
- Kennels are best placed in sheltered areas such as verandas, shade of the trees or the eaves of a building.
- Make sure there is water near the kennel.
- Wash the bedding and clean the kennel periodically.
- Spray regularly with surface sprays such as Coopex to make sure spiders don?t become a problem.
