Townsend Park
Presenter: Kim Syrus
Episode: 26 (3rd November 2007)
Many South Australians would know historic Townsend House, in Hove. It has served South Australian children with sensory impairments for over 130 years. What you might not know about are the changes happening to the area surrounding the house and its massive gardens. There’s a new development that’s making a big difference to a number of other lives.
Set in the wonderful established grounds is Townsend Park, a new estate for the over 55’s. Designed to combine a busy lifestyle and ultra modern living it provides a wide range of housing options.
Along with established villa and courtyard homes, there is also the ‘state of the art’ apartments There are 47 two and three bedroom architecturally designed apartments available, including 11 penthouse suites, where there are spectacular views to the garden, hills and ocean, which is only a stones throw away. The stylish apartments look fantastic and are filled with European appliances.
Leaving the family home is one thing but for many it’s the loss of the garden and the space it provides that creates the biggest dilemma; Townsend Park offers a great balance.
Whether you’re in a villa or courtyard homes with your own garden or an apartment there is plenty to tempt you outside.
The grounds are like a Botanic Garden and are ideal for taking a relaxing stroll along the many safe walking paths that meander through the flower filled beds and wide open lawns. There’s even a playground for the grandkids and young at heart residents.
Some of the new facilities currently under construction are very impressive. The library, café and cinema are nearly finished, and the gym and spa will be ready shortly.
The area also has a very special amphitheatre. It looks like a normal amphitheatre, but when the conditions are right for a King Tide, seawater can flow back up the storm water pipes. The area’s designed to capture all the water, filling like a pond and stopping any flooding.
If you’re over 55 and looking for a change, come and have a look at Townsend Park. It’s certainly an impressive estate with plenty of room to enjoy and one that’s setting the benchmark in modern living and lifestyle choices.
