Controlling Lilly Pilly acne
Presenter: Judy Horton
Episode: 25 (20th October 2007)
Lilly Pillies are some of our most popular plants, but have you ever noticed how some of them get little spots that look like acne? The bumps on the new growth are caused by a native pest called a psyllid. It feeds beneath the leaves and causes the formation of ugly raised-up lumps on the top.
The easiest way to get rid of the damaged leaves is by trimming them off, but often that means you’re forever cutting back the new tips and the plant never gets a chance to grow.
Once the leaves are damaged they are unfortunately spoilt forever. Fortunately there is now a great way to avoid this problem and keep your Lillypillies psyllid free. The new season’s growth can be protected with a product called Confider.
By spray Confidor twice, a week apart, and then once every month through spring and summer will help control the problem. Because it’s systemic the Confidor stays working within the plant and keeps the new growth looking healthy and bump-free.
