Dog Rocks

Presenter: Melissa King
Episode: 25 (20th October 2007)

If you’re a dog lover and a garden lover, you will know well that there is nothing more frustrating than the yellow patches in the lawn left where your dogs insistently relieve themselves. Unfortunately no amount of telling the dog off will stop the behaiviour and will certainly not change the yellow patches back to green.

Thankfully there is now a fantastic solution. This week Melissa talked to Andrea Roberts who has discovered an excellent remedy for yellow patches in the lawn.

Melissa
“So Andrea what’s the idea of Dog Rocks?”

Andrea
“What they do when they are placed in a bowl of water, the dogs water bowl, and they filter the nitrates out of the water. There is a tiny little amount of nitrates in tap water. When that is eliminated from their diet their urine doesn’t burn the lawn any more”.

Melissa
“So it’s nothing to do with pH?”

Andrea
“No, nothing to do with pH. There is a fallacy that by adding bicarb of soda to your dogs food (which would taste pretty awful anyway) that does lower the pH balance but it doesn’t stop the burn patches. You are actually risking your dog’s health by doing that. Dog Rocks are a much better, much safer solution. “

Melissa
“How on earth did you work out that a rock could do that?”

Andrea
“I was at a cocktail party, and a lovely man was telling me about this great rock. Because, I was complaining about Max who was peeing on our lawn and ruining it. I got on the internet, got on the telephone and after about six months I found the right quarry in Australia which does this rock which is paramagnetic and then went from there. I got some samples, gave them to all my friends and family, made them try them on their dogs, made sure they were safe for the dog and that was it.”

Melissa
“So, how many per bowl?”

Andrea
“You put a packet into two litres of water and just keep toping up the water. When you need to rinse it out (if the dog has slobbered in the water) that’s fine as log as you don’t do it too often and as long as the dog just drinks out of the bowl with the dog rocks you’ll be fine.”

Melissa
“So how’s your lawn looking now?”

Andrea
“Beautiful”

The magnetic effect lasts for about two months and it is then time to replace them. You can pick up dog rocks from your local nursery, vet or pet shop.
