Maintaining a Large Garden
Presenter: Neville Passmore
Episode: 24 (13th October 2007)
This week Neville revisited one of his favourite gardens.
25 years ago the garden was an abandoned pine plantation but with some inspired landscape design and quite a lot of hard work it has been transformed into a truly beautiful garden. It covers 2.5 hectares and is located on the sand plains north of Perth. Neville sees it as a little piece of paradise.
Pines were cut from the middle of the property to make an enclosed garden with sweeping lawns and beautiful views. A bore fed creek was constructed that flows under the house, over a waterfall and into a man made lake. The lake plays host to a thousand reflections and a family of friendly ducks. Under the pines shade loving azaleas, camellias, philodendrons and lacey tree ferns have been planted to clothe the landscape.
The easy way to feed a large garden like this is with a liquid fertiliser, a hose on option is ideal. PowerFeed is a great option and it is very universal. Getting started is as easy as clicking on the hose and turning on the tap.
The PowerFeed formula is based on fish waste and is bolstered with essential plant nutrients to stimulate growth in all manner of plants including azaleas and even lawn.
It also includes liquid humus derived from brown coal and helps to improve soil structure. Powerfeed is microbe friendly and can help to build real fertility into the soil.
Some times plant growth gets out of hand and need some trimming to keep wayward plants under control. Fiskars short handled loppers are the perfect toll for such jobs.
While their can be a large amount of upkeep with big gardens, using the right products can make the job much easier.
The Products:
PowerFeed
PowerFeed is a sister product to Seasol, and is a highly refined liquid fertiliser formulated specifically for the Home Garden Market.
It is an organically based fish fertiliser, fortified with essential nutrients as well as humic acids, processed to provide immediate and extended release, and ongoing benefits to the soil.
The fish in PowerFeed provides a rich source of amino acids, proteins, beneficial bacteria, trace elements and vitamins.
The fish used in PowerFeed comes from the waste generated from the commercial fishing industry, and is sourced from all over Australia.
To boost the nutrient levels, the specially processed fish is fortified with extra nitrogen, potassium and a smaller amount of phosphorus.
In addition to this, PowerFeed also contains Concentrated Liquid Composts.
Naturally occurring humates (humic acids) which are the "active" part of humus, provide "liquid compost" adding incredibly dynamic benefits to plants and soils.
