Lush Lawns
Presenter: Dean Boone
Episode: 24 (13th October 2007)
October is a great month to be back in the garden and giving things a bit of a feed. Lawns will definitely benefit from some fertiliser this time of year.
Lawn foods are getting pretty sophisticated which makes it easier for gardeners to get it right first time every time. Lush Lawn Master is a perfect example it contains a 3 month slow release fertiliser and a wetting agent to assist with deep watering in hard soils.
Because it releases nutrients slowly, if you sprinkle it all over your lawns now, it will give it all the food it needs for into the summer. Instead of a big flush of growth you will get strong steady growth which means a healthier lawn all year round. Don’t forget to water it in once applied.
An increasingly popular alternative for lawn is large paving slabs interplanted with mondo grass. This is a great alternative to lawn as it still cools areas around the home making it useable but at the same time allowing water into the soil below.
Caring for such areas is quite simple and fertilising is a breeze. Like traditional lawn area these paved/planted areas also need an application of slow release fertiliser. This will encourage good, healthy growth and root development during the growing season.
In areas where you don’t want fertiliser that smell the ‘Shake and Feed’ is a great option, it contains a wetting agent and contains nutrients which will last for six months. Again it needs to be watered in and then it is done.
