The first one delivers opulent double pink blooms though out the warmer months Sister Emmanuelle Rose (Rosa, Modern Shrub, ‘Soeur Emmanuelle’) is one of the world renowned Delbouir Roses, which are French and fabulous. This one falls into the grand perfume collections.
Sister Emmanuelle should definitely be on your list of roses for winter/spring, for, you guessed it, intoxicating perfume. It is names after the revered French nun, and when you buy this rose you are doing a very good thing, as proceeds from the sale go to Cystic Fibrosis Research.
Here is another real show off. This time from the painters collection, inspired by the French Impressionists. Red Intuition Rose (Rosa, Modern Shrub, ‘Red Intuition’) is a superb choice.
The flowers are very detailed with a colour mix of raspberries, currents and wine; the petals almost look like they have been brushed with paint. With a long stem, it is perfect for the vase.
Carmagnole Rose (Rosa, Modern Shrub, ‘Carmagnol’”) is another star performer in the couture collection. It is wonderfully sensuous, with delicate and elegant ivory white flowers that are brushed with pink. It is a stand out floribunda rose and makes a great loose hedge.
Now is a great time to plant your roses and if you act quickly you can still get beautiful Delbard roses like these bear rooted for under $20. If you visit the Rankin Direct website and place your order directly Rankins Roses Direct will deliver it to your door.
They will also be available in your local garden centre in pots this coming spring.
If your looking for striking foliage cover then it does not get better than this low maintenance beauty. It is called Cabernett Cordyline (Cordyline Australia ‘Cabernett”) and yes it is as delicious as the name suggests. Apart from this luxuriant rich wine coloured foliage it has got a wonderful multi stemmed habit and robust growth, it gets to around two metres high and the foliage weeps just slightly to make a strong upper textural statement.
Cordyline Cabernett is a genuinely good garden performer, easy to care for, tough, capable of growing in costal locations, drought hardy and able to withstand frosts. And the foliage makes a striking contrast when planted in-between green or silver leaved plants.
Now is the time to get all of these beauties in the ground, so visit your local garden centre.
