Pruning

Episode: # 12 30/06/07
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

Winter is the time of year you should be getting out and pruning your garden and there are certain plants that really need it. Fruit trees are one and roses are another.

If you give them a good cut back now, come early spring you will have lots and lots of flowers.

One problem a lot of people get is that they get out and prune with those really cheap pruners. A three or five dollar pair of pruners are going to blunt very quickly. The problem with that is that you will end up transferring diseases like black spot.

By cutting through wood you will actually end up transferring the black spot from one plant to another which can cause a really serious problem so make sure you use the very best quality and nice sharp secateurs.
