What to Do

Episode: # 12 30/06/07
Presenter: Melissa King

If you are a dog lover and a lawn lover, then you will relate to the fact that there is nothing more annoying than those ugly yellow patches you get in the grass when Rover decides to relieve himself. Now you can tell the dog off all you like, but there is a much easier solution.

Melissa talks to Andrea Roberts from Dog Rocks. When placed in the dog’s water, like in their bowl, dog rocks filter the nitrates out of the water. When the tiny amount of nitrate that is in tap water is eliminated from their diet, their urine doesn’t burn the lawn anymore!

It has nothing to do with ph and adding bi-carbonate of soda to your dogs food will reduce to ph levels but wont stop the burnt patches so why risk your dogs health?!

Andrea first discovered the idea at a cocktail party when she complaining about the marks on her own lawn. A man at the party told her about the rocks and after months of researching Andrea found the right quarry, which has the paramagnetic rock, and went from there.

She got some samples and gave them to her friends and family for a little bit of ‘market research’ making sure they were healthy and safe for the dog.

All you do is put a packet of dog rocks into 2 litres of water and just keep of topping up the water. If you need to rinse out the bowl that is fine but is best to make sure you don’t do it too often. As long as your dog only drinks the water with the dog rocks in it, you will have a great lawn!

The paramagnetic affect lasts for about 2 months and then it is time to replace them with new ones. You can pick them up from your local nursery, vet or pet shop.
