Day 2 - Ireland’s First International Garden Festival

Day 2 - 29th May 2007

Ireland’s First International Garden Festival
Ireland’s first international garden festival is an exciting and inspiring showcase for contemporary garden design. It is being held from 29th June to 23rd September 2007 at Emo Court, Co. Laos and will feature 15 very different gardens, which will all be fully maintained for the duration of the festival.

Emo Court is in the heart of Ireland just one hours drive from Dublin or can be easily reached by rail. Emo court is a beautiful, neo classical mansion designed by celebrated architect James Gandon in 1790, surrounded by parkland. The festival is to be held in the midst of this picturesque landscape, adjacent to the lake.

“The festival will give the general public, tourists, garden and design enthusiasts alike, the opportunity to enjoy – and be inspired by – innovative gardens designed with flair, imagination and vision” - Rosaleen Flanagan

An entry by Canberra landscape architects, Harris Hobbs Landscape Architects, is one of 15 designs selected. The Harris Hobbs design, entitled ‘Kanguroots’, fuses the Festival theme of ‘duchas’ or roots, with Australia by blending ideas of ancestral culture with the iconic marsupial.
