Designer Gardens at Singapore Garden and Flower Show – Fantasy Garden Peter Cheok
Episode: Singapore Special
Presenter: Neville Passmore
Fantasy Garden Designer Peter Cheok took out the Gold Medal as well as best of show with his design called ‘Blowin’ in the wind’.
The black dome totally dominates the show and its purpose is they are trying to send a message to the public that if we don’t start to take care of our environment and rainforests that this is what it is going to look like and it is definitely not something that we want.
When you first enter the dome you are greeted by the sight of the ravaged rainforest and you can see the surviving undergrowth mutating into something that is totally different. As the heroine wanders through the cavern she comes to a few bubbles where she hopes that her favourite plant, the Boston fern (Nephrolepis exaltata), can survive.
There a series of bubbles with different themes including the cloud bubble, snow bubble, desert bubble and the underwater bubble. In each bubble the plant will mutate and it will not have its beauty and is definitely not suitable to survive in that kind of environment.
The heroin wakes up and finds that the secret garden is doing very well and realizes it was just a bad dream that she hope will not come true.
The message clearly is that we have to do something to look after our rainforests and the planet before the apocalypse comes.
It really is a fantastic design.
