New plant introduction - Cordyline Cabernett TM
Episode: #1 10/3/07
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Autumn is one of the best times of the year to get out into your nearest garden centre and discover new release plants. Trevor shows us a new clumping cordyline called Cordyline Cabernett ™. It grows to around 2 metres and has shiny sword shaped strappy foliage.
When you combine the foliage shape with the striking colour it can be visually captivating, it is that bold rich “cabernet” red wine colour tones that will make a great contrast in your garden.
Planted singularly the cordylines look great but en masse they make spectacular features. One of the features Trevor loves about the cordyline is the summer- generated creamy white flowers which appear high above the foliage on long drooping panicles. They are gently fragrant and make a great addition to a vase when picked and brought indoors.
If you do not have a lot of room in your garden don’t worry, the Cordyline Cabernett ™ also looks great in a decorative pot and because it has a low water requirement, it is ideal for dry gardens.
It is a classic example of the quality of new varieties of plants now available and they are all a result of careful plant breeding and superior plant selection. The improved hardiness and features means you get great results more easily which will add a real touch of class to your garden.
Garden Gurus will be showcasing some terrific new plant varieties in the coming series, so make sure you keep visiting our fact sheets for more information on the great new plants that are going to be on offer this year.
The Cordyline Cabernett ™ is available exclusively through Bunnings outlets
