We’ve all heard them-tips and tricks that are supposed to give you a beautiful garden all year ‘round….but they never seem to quite work! Here Kim debunks some common gardening myths; tune in to see if you have fallen for any of them!

  • Myth: ‘The more fertilizer you give a plant the better it grows’. Fact: Well if that was the case we’d be planting direct into fertilizer tubs. Manufacturers have recommended application rates for the fertilizers because they know delicate plant roots can only take so many nutrients before they are damaged. In fact too much nutrient can have the reverse effect.
  • Myth: ‘The best way to cure a sick plant is feed it’. Fact: The reason a plant can look sick is more likely to be a water or disease issue. Check to see your irrigation is working and if the plant is getting too much or too little water. A little tonic is probably what that sick plant needs.
  • Myth: ‘Putting gravel in the bottom of a pot aids drainage’. Fact: It is the opposite, as the more coarse material there is at the bottom of a pot, the longer it will take to drain and that affects plant performance. Stick to a straight premium potting if you want top results.
