What is an Heirloom Vegetable? Heirloom are the old and original varieties of vegetables. Many of the Heirloom Veggies are said to be much higher in nutrition than some of the newer cultivators that we see on the market today.

  • Many of the heirloom varieties that are still on the market today is because they really do have that beautiful sweet flavor that we are all searching for in our veggies.
  • Heirloom Veggies varies in different colours and unusual shapes, adding some excitement and a point of difference to our gardens and our kitchens.
  • The purple carrot originated from Persia and is higher in certain antioxidants than what the common orange carrot is and is being referred as the next ‘Super Food’ and is seen more and more and supermarkets.
  • The purple carrot also has extremely good anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Heirloom tomatoes are a favorite to many home gardeners due to taste and nutrition and the many colours that they come in.
  • For best results, it’s really important to make sure you have a free draining organic soil in your garden beds, Once you have prepared the soil, you are ready to plant.
  • Tomatoes are best spaced about 50cm apart so they have plenty of room to grow. A full sun position is also required for tomatoes to help the ripening process. Ensure that you stake the tomato bush, this way it won’t fall over when it gets taller.
