Neville explores the alternate way of keeping the weeds out - choking out the ground with beautiful plants of your own choosing.
- Pioneer plants have a role to play; they need to germinate rapidly, grow even faster, cover the soil, flower and set seed for even more plants to follow in their footsteps.
- By covering the ground with spreading/ground cover plants, you choke out the chance for weeds to even germinate.
- Among the choices, Variegated gazanias flower through spring and early summer, the sunny flowers of Aurora daisies are also drought-resistant through winter and spring. Sheoke hug the ground on flat surfaces and hang over edges as a water-wise plant.
- Silver carpet dimondia grows so densely that it chokes out weeds, with flowers that are small but resemble the gazanias, to which they are related. Even perfumed violets can protect your shaded gardens from weed invasion.
